Swapping and handing off
Trading a shift with a housemate, or giving one away outright, from the first tap to both calendars changing.

A swap trades hours with one housemate. Nothing moves until they say yes.
Do it
Open My Shifts and tap the shift.
Choose Swap it , then Choose who to swap with .
Pick Swap or Hand off . A hand off is one way: they get the hours, you get nothing back.
- Pick the housemate.
Drag the sliders to set your hours and theirs. Part of a shift is fine.
Tap Propose swap .
What you’ll see
Your card reads Swap pending. Theirs shows the request at once, no refresh needed. When they accept, both calendars change together.
Rules that apply
- A pending swap freezes the shift. One block can sit in only one request, so you cannot drop or re-swap it. See How a swap resolves.
- A swap dies 3 hours before the earlier shift starts. Nobody is left arranging cover at the last minute.
- A hand off can be recorded late. These are agreed at the desk, so you get 24 hours after the shift ends to log who worked it.
- Both of you must be allowed at the other desk. Harnwell needs its own training, and the check runs again on acceptance. See How floating works.
- Hours you take count against your week, so your cap can block a swap. A hand off skips that check. See Hours, caps, and attribution.
If it goes wrong
It disappeared. Your shift was dropped or floated before they answered, so the request was voided. You are both told.
Nobody answered. It expired, nothing changed.
They declined. The shift is yours again, and unfrozen.
