Setting up break periods

Declaring a break period and setting each house’s coverage for it.

This page is a placeholder. Its structure is fixed; the writing lands in a later phase.

A break takes its dates out of the built schedule and opens them for workers to claim.

Do it

  1. Enter the name, the Type , and the start and end dates. Type sets the hours cap: 40 hard for Thanksgiving, fall break and spring break, 20 soft for spring fling. Hard refuses a claim past the cap; soft only warns. See Hours, caps, and attribution.

  2. Set each house: open or closed, Staff , and its weekday and weekend hours.
  3. Select Preview changes . It lists shifts created, seats voided, and every worker who loses one.

  4. Select Declare break , or Save break on one that exists.

What you’ll see

The break appears under Declared breaks . Remove returns its dates to the regular school year and rebuilds the shifts.

Rules that apply

  • A break may only cover regular school year dates, so nothing already authored is overwritten. See The operating calendar.
  • Floating is a switch on the break. With it off, an uncovered desk goes from broadcast straight to Allied. See How a shift gets covered.

If it goes wrong

The range overlaps a season or another break. Shrink that one first.

Preview lists workers losing shifts. Closing a desk, or cutting its staff, cancels their future shifts. The cancellation goes out when you save, so tell them first.

You declared it inside 14 days. The window runs from the break’s first day, so workers get what is left of it.
